SparkDate puts 20–30 singles in a good bar for one evening and makes sure they actually talk to each other. That last part is the job. We're looking for Event Hosts in nine US cities, at $22 an hour.
You run a SparkDate mixer from doors to last call. You are the reason a room of strangers turns into a room of conversations, and the reason nobody stands alone by the bar looking at their phone.
This is not bartending and it is not promo work. Nobody is asking you to hand out flyers or hit a sales target. You are hosting an evening — greeting people by name, reading who has not spoken to anyone yet, and making the introduction they were not going to make themselves.
Meet the venue contact, confirm the space and the tab, set up. You are there before anyone else and you leave after they do.
Check guests in, learn names fast, get drinks moving. First fifteen minutes set the temperature of the whole night.
The room splits into balanced tables of about six and you run a game at the tables. The game is the icebreaker, not a warm-up before the evening — it exists so nobody has to invent an opening line cold. After the first round the women stay and the men move one table along, so every round is a new set of people. How many rounds, and how long each runs, is set per event before you arrive.
Guests go where they want, for as long as it is working. This is where you work the room — by now everyone has met most of it at the tables, so nobody is starting cold, but the drifters are yours to spot.
Simultaneous pairs, prioritising people who have not already shared a table. Near the end each guest privately notes anyone they would like to see again; mutual interest becomes a match that same night.
Thank people, settle up with the venue, send us the headcount and anything we should know for next time.
Hospitality, events, teaching, bartending, retail, theatre and front-desk backgrounds all translate well. So does none of the above — we care much more about how you are in a room than what is on your CV.
$22 an hour, which on a four-hour evening is about $88. Hosts are engaged as independent contractors and paid per event. You are never required to drink, and you are never on your own — there is always someone from SparkDate reachable during an event.
Two kinds of role here, and they are genuinely different jobs.
Lancaster and Philadelphia are running now. Those rooms already exist, the venues are booked and the guests already turn up — you would be taking over an evening that works, not building one. Sooner start, nothing to invent.
The rest are markets we are opening. The host usually arrives before the first event does, so an early hire helps choose the venues and shapes how the city runs.
